Valence House Museum Vision and Masterplan

Valence House Museum

Working with conservation specialists Caroe Architecture and landscape architects Dominic Cole Associates the Council are developing a Vision and Masterplan for Valence House Museum.

Valence House is a highly significant historic site located in the heart of the Becontree Estate. It is surrounded in part by a moat and moated enclosure, both are a rare survival from the medieval period. The site consists of a Grade II* listed historic house, Archives and Local Studies Centre, a visitor centre, gardens and park. Valence Library and Valence Primary School are also located on the wider site.

The Vision and Masterplan will reveal, enhance, understand and protect the essential heritage significance of Valence House and the rare historic survival of a moat and moated enclosure. The development of the masterplan will bring focus on the specialist conservation of the built fabric, moat, moated enclosure, gardens and park setting, interpretation policies, nature conservation and biodiversity.

The Vision and Masterplan aligns to the Council’s Corporate Plan and aspirations to be carbon neutral by 2030 and for the Borough to be carbon neutral by 2050.
