A programme of art, culture and new infrastructure to reimagine the future of the UK’s biggest council housing estate
Be First, Barking & Dagenham Council’s regeneration company, will work with homeowners, tenants, renters, landlords and users to develop a code that improves the design and adaptation of homes, buildings and spaces on the estate. The council urgently needs to adapt and decarbonise the estate to address the climate emergency (and meet the council’s 2030 and 2050 net zero commitments) and the cost of living crisis and the code will support this change.
The Becontree Design Code, alongside a Becontree Future Neighbourhoods strategy and a Becontree Model House, is one of three projects led by Be First that aim to bring residents together to reimagine the estate for future generations.
